Internet servers use a lot of their processing power for providing high content and heavy traffic portals using large Javascripts or XML. In addition, bandwidth costs increase as more data is sent to the client. A known solution is to implement compression to decrease the amount of data sent, thus increasing performance and lowering bandwidth costs. However, since compression is a compute-intensive task, software compression negates the speed benefit and requires servers to be scaled, which becomes expensive.

The WE 500 solves this problem. Dedicated hardware performs the task of compression which allows the server to focus on other tasks. The WE 500 is a power efficient PCI-Express board optimized for use in load balancers and SSL accelerators. With its 2 compression engines, the WE 500 achieves a peak throughput of 1 Gbps.

The board offloads the core CPU cycles during compression of HTML, XML, Javascripts, etc. in real time. Any web server's performance can be cost-effectively scaled using the WE 500.
