Download SS 500 Datasheet

The SS 500 is a PCI-Express card designed to deliver real-time compression and encryption. It has one dedicated compression engine which manages compression and decompression, while a second dedicated engine implements the encryption algorithms. Since two separate engines are used, compression and encryption can be performed simultaneously. It also features a built-in, easy to use, key management system. The SS 500 stores up to 64 different keys and automatically selects the correct key to decrypt an encrypted file. The administrator can backup the keys so that in case the SS 500 card is unavailable, data can still be decrypted.

The board implements the AES encryption algorithm in ECB mode with a 128 bit block size. Both 128 and 256 bit size keys are supported. The SS 500 works across both 32 bit and 64 bit architectures of the x86 Intel platforms, on most of the popular Linux platforms, Windows 2003 Server and Windows 2008 Server.

The SS 500 peaks at 130 MB/sec during compression and 110 MB/sec during decompression. It delivers encryption or decryption at 130 MB/sec simultaneously for 128 bit size keys.

The SS 500 is supported under EMC Retrospect and under Amanda.
