Indra Networks Adds StorCompress 300 to its StorCompress Family of Hardware Accelerators

At 135 Mbyte/s throughput and industry-best hardware-based data compression ratio, StorComrpess 300 offers enterprise-class performance and a superior backup solution.
San Jose, CA - July 01, 2005

Indra Networks today announced the release of StorCompress 300, a redesigned and faster version of its StorCompress line of hardware accelerators. StorCompress 300 retains all the features of the existing versions of StorCompress product line, but adds improved compression performance and a PCI-X interface. By performing compression at 135 Mbyte/s StorCompress 300 offers 50% more throughput than its predecessor StorCompress 200. StorCompress 300 is aimed at high-end storage appliances and network servers that need speed, scalability, and consistent throughput for most efficient and cost-effective use of network and storage systems.

StorCompress 300 uses the "deflate" algorithm, which is compatible with the popular gzip and zlib open source software. This guarantees that the data compressed by StorCompress 300 will be decompressible by gzip or zlib software running on the client computer. StorCompress 300 hardware architecture includes leading-edge Xilinx FPGAs to combine two compression engines and a 66 MHz PCI-X bus interface for maximum performance and space utilization. It also includes a decompression engine that can deliver throughput of up to 180 Mbyte/s. The 64 bit PCI-X interface is backward compatible with 3.3V PCI protocol. StorCompress 300 also includes a complete SDK to interact with the SC300's compression system. The StorCompress 300 hardware and software are designed to enable network and storage equipment makers to enhance their products with powerful solutions and expedite Time to Market.

Indra's StorCompress products maximize network bandwidth and available storage capacity by increasing system throughput and compressing data. Typical applications for StorCompress include Disk-To-Disk Backup, Disk-To-Disk-To-Tape backup and data archival. Depending on the type and size of the data being compressed, StorCompress can reduce data size by 2x to 10x. By reducing the size of the data, on average, to about one-third of its original size with almost no CPU utilization, StorCompress 300 enables network servers and storage appliances to handle large amounts of data without affecting their throughput. When used in storage appliances, Indra's products will allow OEMs to offer higher capacity products at a much lower cost. "By including Indra's StorCompress into backup appliances and network servers, our customers will be able to offer a very compelling and tightly integrated solution to their customers. StorCompress 300 signifies Indra's continued commitment to provide the best price-performance products for its customers," said Monish Shah, Indra's Co-founder and CEO.

Availability Product samples are available now for select customers, with general availability in August 2005. Please send an email to sales@indranetworks.com, or call (925)-519-0609 for further enquiries.
