Indra announces the release of the new WebEnhance 500 card, available immediately. The WE 500 is the first card in the WebEnhance series designed for the PCI-Express host bus and achieves 1Gbps throughput for data compression on Web servers. The WE 500 is programmed using the industry-standard 'deflate' algorithm, and the compressed data is compatible with the open-source software gzip and zlib. This ensures that compressed data is compatible with all major browsers. The WE 500 compresses data from a server before sending it over the Internet, effectively reducing the amount of data sent. This leads to reduced bandwidth costs and faster transfer of data to end users. Since the WE 500 performs compression using dedicated hardware, there is almost no CPU utilization. In cases where the WE 500 replaces software-implemented compression, the card offloads the compute-intensive task of data compression, allowing the CPU to focus on other tasks. The WE 500 can be plugged into a PCI-Express host bus, and thus can be integrated into the system with minimal changes to the system as a whole. Monish Shah, CEO of Indra Networks, said, "Today's Web pages contain richer content, which also makes them bigger. This requires more time and more bandwidth to transfer. The WE 500 is an effective solution to this problem. Through savings in bandwidth costs and power consumption, the WE 500 will quickly pay for its cost, not to mention happier customers due to faster data transfer." WE 500 is available immediately.
